How Can A Bicycle Have Higher Powers?
The Santa Cruz Hightower is a versatile mountain bike designed to handle a wide range of trail conditions with ease. It's often favored by riders who want a bike that excels in both climbing and descending, making it a solid choice for those who enjoy tackling varied terrain. The combination of large wheels and 150mm VPP™ suspension setup helps to maintain speed and efficiency on climbs while offering a smooth, controlled experience on descents.
Who It's For
The Hightower is ideal for:
- Trail Riders: Those who ride diverse trails and want a bike that can handle both technical sections and smoother, faster trails. We used to call these people ‘mountain bikers’ until it all got a little complicated.
- Energetic Enduroistas : Riders who participate in enduro racing or demanding trail rides that require both efficient climbing and capable descending.
- Day Trippers: Cyclists looking for a bike that can do it all without being overly specialized in one area. Perfect if you’re hitting the road with one bike or just want one bike in the garage.
Technical Features and Their Benefits
Suspension System: The Hightower typically features a full-suspension design with 150mm of VPP™ travel (in the latest version). This provides a balance between plushness for rough descents and efficiency for climbing.
Carbon Frame: Carbon is lightweight yet strong, which helps with overall bike weight and durability, contributing to better performance both uphill and downhill. Santa Cruz offer two levels: C and CC, with the former being the lightest but both offering the same features, strength, lifetime warranty and ride quality.
Dropper Post: A dropper post is always featured on the Hightower, allowing for on-the-fly seat height adjustments. This is particularly beneficial for tackling steep descents where you need more clearance and for re-adjusting your seat height for efficient climbing.
Geometry Adjustability: Hightower models offer adjustable geometry via a flip chip in the lower link, letting you fine-tune the bike’s handling characteristics to suit different trail conditions or personal preferences.
29-inch Wheels: The larger wheels complements the Hightower’s versatile nature by enhancing its ability to handle diverse trail conditions effectively. Whether climbing a steep trail or descending a technical section, the added stability and traction provided by 29-inch wheels can make a significant difference, allowing for more controlled and enjoyable rides.
Glovebox: Place your ride essentials securely beneath a new high-quality latch and panel in the Hightower's downtube. The Glovebox comes with a fitted Tool Wallet and Tube Purse, tailored for the frame to keep your tools close to hand.
Made To Last: The Hightower, like all Santa Cruz's use only the highest quality Enduro MAX sealed angular contact bearings and premium fasteners for the linkage assemblies. They’re easy to properly torque and maintain, plus we offer free replacement bearings for life. The pivots and links are great at maintaining a consistent ride for many years. It’s all very tough, reliable and easy to work on.
Overall, the combination of large wheels, suspension and features provides the most complete package of mountain bike. That’s why it’s regarded as the definitive modern mountain bike.
