A fan favorite for his hard-charging style and intense work ethic, Santa Cruz htSQD rider Tobin Ortenblad’s life on two wheels began with building jumps and racing BMX as a kid. The Santa Cruz, Calif. native’s eventual move to cyclocross wasn’t unexpected as both his father and sister were already immersed in the rich NorCal CX scene. A few years into it and “McTubbin,” as he’s affectionately known, won the 2016 under-23 national cyclocross championship while splitting his time between racing on road and dirt. More recently he’s expanded his horizons to include cross country mountain bike racing.
Competing under the htSQD banner—a partnership between Rapha and Santa Cruz with support from SRAM and RockShox—Tobin’s varied competition calendar mixes traditional XCO events with cyclocross, gravel, marathon events, and even a road race or two. When he’s not traveling the country to get to races, Tobin can be seen drafting behind his dad's scooter while training on his hometown backroads.
In 2021, Tobin set the FKT (Fastest Known Time) for the reverse loop of Utah’s famed White Rim Trail.
